Introduction - Figure 1 Description
The flowchart shows the interrelationships between the evidence base, Nutrient reference values, Core food group analysis, Australian dietary guidelines, the New Zealand food and nutrition guidelines and Australian guide to healthy eating.
Nutrient reference values are a set of recommendations for nutritional intake based on currently available scientific knowledge. The following information contributes to the development of the nutrient reference values:
- dietary intake from national surveys
- observations of populations
- animal and Human experimentation
- extrapolation from other populations
- chronic/deficiency disease, epidemiology/intervention.
The nutrient references values informed the NHMRC core food group analysis which was used to inform the Australian guide to healthy eating, The nutrient references values, NHMRC core food group analysis and Australian guide to healthy eating underpin the Australian dietary guidelines and the New Zealand food and nutrition guidelines.
